Manama – The National Audit Office:

The National Audit Office (NAO) chaired the first coordination meeting of the Group of Supreme Audit Institutions responsible for implementing the initiative to reformulate the terminology used in writing and translating international auditing standards issued by the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI).

The Steering Committee of the Professional Standards Committee (PSC) of INTOSAI selected the NAO to head the team responsible for the project, as part of the strategic development plan for the years 2023-2028.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the NAO, Mr. Ahmed Mohamed Buti, Director - Regularity Audit, and Ms. Abrar Hassan Alsaegh, Audit Supervisor at the Regularity Audit Directorate, as well as representatives from Sweden, Norway, Australia, France, Poland, South Africa and Morocco, in addition to representatives from the PSC of INTOSAI and the Forum for INTOSAI Professional Pronouncements (FIPP). The Group includes members representing 16 States.

The virtual meeting reviewed the NAO’s initiative, which was submitted to the Arab Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ARABOSAI), regarding the standardization of terminology used in translating international auditing standards into Arabic, and the extent to which it is possible to benefit from the Arab experience in implementing the initiative to reformulate the terms used in writing and translating international auditing standards issued by INTOSAI.

In addition, it discussed the NAO’s vision on the proposed mechanism for the implementation of this initiative, which emphasized the importance that the terminology used in writing the international auditing standards issued by INTOSAI should be consistent and understandable to ensure ease of application by Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) around the world.
The attendees agreed that the NAO would review the implementation plan of the initiative during the next FIPP meeting in the Republic of Bulgaria next month.
