Seminar organized by the House of Representatives and the Shura Council.

This morning, the National Audit Office (NAO) participated in a symposium on the implications of the National Action Charter on national institutions which was jointly organized by the Secretariat General of the Shura Council and the Secretariat General of the House of Representatives on the occasion of the National Action Charter’s 21st anniversary.

Mr. Mahmood Hashim, Director Administrative Audit at the NAO, presented a summary on the implications of the National Action Charter on the work and achievements of the NAO as one of the accomplishments of the reform project of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

He pointed out that the National Action Charter’s third chapter stressed the need to develop an institutional system for financial and administrative control aimed at verifying the proper use of public money and the adherence to administrative rules and regulations, and enhancing transparency in various state institutions.

Furthermore, he indicated that since its inception, the NAO has sought to achieve the visions and aspirations contained in the National Action Charter by verifying the soundness of spending public money and achieving optimal utilization of all resources whilst being keen to apply the highest levels of integrity, professionalism and transparency in order to serve the public interest.

Mr. Hashem noted that the Constitution of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the law guaranteed the financial and administrative independence of the NAO from the legislative and executive authorities as well as the independence of its employees. That enabled the NAO to perform the audit tasks entrusted to it with impartiality, transparency, and professionalism which helped strengthen the credibility of its work results.

Representatives of the House of Representatives, the Shura Council, the Constitutional Court and the Supreme Council participated in the symposium, which was held via video conference.
