The National Audit Office (NAO) organized specialized training courses for its employees on the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing (IIA), its developments and professional conduct in cooperation with the UAE Internal Auditors Association (UAE IAA).
The courses, attended by about 88 employees, are part of the NAO's training strategy to ensure compliance with audit standards and inform its employees about the latest developments in auditing as well as refine their skills and improve their expertise to enhance results when carrying out various audit tasks.
The courses included the review of the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing (IIA) and their latest developments and were tailored to different job levels. The participants were briefed on the latest and most prominent developments in internal auditing standards, which represent a set of principles and guidelines that regulate the practice of the internal audit profession at the global level, to ensure compliance with laws and regulations. In addition, they were introduced to new trends in risk-based audit work and the governance of institutions.
Furthermore, the training discussed enhancing the professional conduct of auditors, the most important principles of which are integrity, objectivity, independence, competence, and professional confidentiality. It stressed the importance of impartiality in audit work and the importance of making decisions based on facts and objective analysis. It talked about facing ethical challenges and dealing with situations in a professional manner and discussed practical experiences to help with the effective and professional application of the principles.
The courses were provided by experts specialized in the fields of audit, governance and risk management: Ms. Rania Derian, an expert in governance, risk management and internal audit holding multiple professional certificates, most notably CPA, CIA, BFQ, and Cobit 5 Framework; Mr.Elie Safer, Chief Internal Auditor at Notre Dame University Lebanon, a specialized trainer in internal audit and fraud investigation holding CPA, CIA, and BFQ certification.
