Meeting in Saudi Arabia discussed the promotion of audit work in the Arab region.
His Excellency Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Auditor General of the National Audit Office, participated in the 14th Assembly of the Arab Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ARABOSAI), which was held in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The Assembly, comprising the Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) in the Arab member countries of the League of Arab States, approved the previous meeting’s agenda, the report of the Governing Board on the follow-up of the organization's activity and the measures it took to ensure the implementation of the previously approved work programme as well as the financial report of the Chairman of the Governing Board.
The meeting, which was chaired by the General Audit Bureau of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (president of the current assembly for 3 years), declared the State Audit Institution of the United Arab Emirates as its second deputy as it will host the 15th session of the assembly.
Furthermore, the meeting discussed the Strategic Plan Committee’s report on the achievements for 2018-2022, adopted the strategic plan for 2023-2028 and approved the organization's work plan and budget.
The General Assembly elected the members of the new Governing Board and the heads of the main committees of the organization and declared the 24th of May as the Arab Day of the Supreme Audit Institutions.
On the second day, a technical symposium was held on “The Goals of the Transition to Accrual-Based Accounting and its Role in Improving the Performance of Public Finances,” “The Effects of the Transition to Accrual-Based Accounting on Government Audit Work: Opportunities and Challenges,” and “The Roadmap for Achieving Excellence in Developing Work Methodologies and Capacity Building: Solutions and Methods.” The assembly’s third day is dedicated to the meetings of the new Governing Board and the formation of the Strategic Plan Committee.
The Arab Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ARABOSAI) was established in 1976. It includes all SAIs in the Arab member countries of the League of Arab States and is one of the regional organizations accredited by the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI).
The meetings were attended by the National Audit Office of the Kingdom of Bahrain. The delegation was headed by His Excellency the Auditor General Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa accompanied by Dr. Isa Nasser Alnoaimi, Assistant Auditor General Administrative Audit, Mr. Qasim Ahmed Almadhoob, Assistant Auditor General Performance Audit, Mr. Mohammed Amin Hulaiwah, Director Public Relations and International Cooperation and Mr. Mohamed Fuad Sater, Head of Public Relations Auditor General’s Office.
