The National Audit Office (NAO) hosted several training sessions on artificial intelligence (AI) which was attended by more than 86 NAO employees.

These sessions come within the NAO’s framework to inform its employees about the latest developments and best practices in the audit field and how to raise their efficiency.

Participants learned how artificial intelligence techniques could be employed in audit work, what their benefits were, how they could empower Supreme Audit Institution (SAI) employees, the resources they required, and the risks associated with them. The trainers used practical examples of AI application in the US Government Accountability Office (GAO) for illustration purposes and hinted at the potential further development of AI in the audit field.

The sessions were presented by Taka Ariga, Chief Data Scientist and Director of the Innovation Lab at US GAO, who previously held executive positions at Deloitte, Ernst & Young, and Booz Allen Hamilton, where he worked with audit, compliance, legal, and regulated entities. He earned a bachelor's degree in computer engineering from Johns Hopkins University.

The second presenter was Alex Gromadzki, Senior Data Scientist at the US GAO Innovation Lab, where he currently leads projects that use Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Generative AI to enhance productivity, information retrieval, and knowledge management. Prior to joining GAO, he was a Senior Consultant at Guide House, where he was part of the Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Automation team. Alex holds a master’s degree in data science and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Virginia.
