Manama – The National Audit Office:

A training course on "Auditor's Responsibility regarding Suspicions of Fraud Discovered During Audit Work" was launched yesterday at the National Audit Office (NAO) in the presence of 17 participants from Bahrain and other GCC SAIs.

H.E. Shaikh Abdullah bin Khalid Al Khalifa, Deputy Auditor General for Administrative Audit at the NAO, welcomed the participants, stressing the importance of cooperation and exchange of experiences between audit institutions and wishing the participants all the best in achieving the desired benefit from the training.

The 3-day course, held at the NAO's headquarters, aims to familiarize participants with professional standards related to suspicions of fraud and corruption in the public sector and how to detect cases of fraud and corruption during audit work.

It examines the role and responsibility of the auditor in cases of fraud and corruption, relevant professional standards, special considerations regarding suspicions of fraud and corruption in the public sector, indicators of fraud and corruption (Red Flags), and the assessment of fraud risks and ways to deal with them.

Furthermore, the training discusses procedures for dealing with suspicions of corruption and fraud that may be discovered during audit work, the concept of investigative auditing and its importance in dealing with suspicions of corruption, and ways of coordination with the competent judicial authorities.

The training will also include a review of some of the experiences of participating SAIs and will touch upon the most important difficulties and how to avoid them in the future as well as recommendations and proposals in this regard.

The course will be delivered by H.E. Dr. Issa Nasser Alnoaimi, Assistant Auditor General for Administrative Control and Head of the Investigative Audit Team, Mr. Salah Saleh Alyafeai, Director - Administrative Audit and Member of the Investigative Audit Team, and Mr. Mohammed Issa Alaradi, Audit Manager - Administrative Audit and Member of the Investigative Audit Team, while Mr. Amr Mahmoud Nassar, Legal Advisor, will conclude the training by answering participants' questions.
